Living by the motto “be the change you want to see in the world,” Minister Maria Vanessa Browne has proven to be a caring and engaged community representative within her first term, making good on the promises she made and looks towards a second term where she will continue to serve, taking the constituency of St. John’s Rural East to the next level.
Minister Browne’s enthusiasm for youth development and female empowerment has seen this empathetic and vibrant constituency representative obtain scholarships for persons, and start-up support for small businesses within the constituency; and she continues to donate to the enhancement of schools within the area. She has also founded the HomeWork Club, an after school program which runs in the second and third terms of the academic year and into the summer break culminating in a grand annual summer camp for children. She also provides a continuous hot meals programme for seniors, shut-ins and the indigent that has since delivered over 6,000 hot meals since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Having listened to her constituents, and in an effort to ensure the residential safety and comfort of those most in need, Minister Browne developed the Home Improvement Help Program in her constituency, which aims at assisting families refurbish their homes with safety and climate resilience in mind. Under her tenure as representative for St. John’s Rural East, the ABLP government has brought YEEP (the Second Chance CXC/CAPE Program) to Cassada Gardens, resurfaced Yasco Athletic track, rehabilitated the main roads bordering the constituency, completed the John E St. Luce Conference Center and improved the JSC Sports Complex. As Minister for Housing and Lands, Minister Maria Browne has presided over the Government’s housing revolution ( part of which will soon be launched in her constituency), and has made available the most parcels for residential and commercial purposes.
Her plans for the constituency include refurbishing the St. Johnston’s Village Playfield, enhancing the Mahico Club playfield, creating more job opportunities, bring affordable and sustainable housing to her constituents with a new housing development, improve infrastructure within the communities, and improve green spaces and common areas.
Minister Browne is married to Prime Minister Gaston Browne and is the mother of two children. She is a Catholic and lives by the Bible Verse “God is within me, I will not fail.” Psalm 46:5
In her spare time, she enjoys photography, philanthropy and quality time with family.
