Minister Daryll Matthew has served the children of our country ably as Education and Sports Minister.
A devoted Christian, Minister Matthew’s favorite Bible story is Jesus calming the storm because that is indicative of how good leaders bring people together to get things done (Mark 4:35-41).
During his tenure as the MP for St. John’s Rural South, Minister Matthew has helped with scholarships, homework clubs, school donations, classes for constituents and a land program to help residents access land.
His plans for the constituency include construction of a clinic, expansion of the school, improved sporting facilities, improved housing stock, road naming, road fixing, overall cleanliness and the establishment of a community steel orchestra and Credit Union.
Minister Matthew earned a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) specializing in International Business, with research in Foreign Direct Investment from Aston University in the UK, and a Masters Degree in Geo-Information Management from Twente University, Enschede in The Netherlands.
Prior to serving in government, Minister Matthew was a practicing Land Surveyor and Business Development Consultant. Additionally, he has been tremendously active locally and internationally in the following areas:
- Member of the ACB Board of Directors
- President of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association
- Executive Member of the National Olympic Committee
- Treasurer of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation
- Member of the Finance Committee the World Governing Body of Basketball in the Americas – FIBA Americas
- Vice-President of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation
Minister Matthew is married, has three children, and is a member of Cashew Hill Moravian Church
In his spare time, he enjoys sports, community service and reading and in 2012 Mr. Matthew received a National Youth Award for Entrepreneurship from the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.
